Random Things I’m Interested in Midterm Primaries Kick Off!
By Xander (Released in issue 3, vol. 2)
At the start of this month, three states kicked off the 2026 midterm election cycle with primaries: Texas, Arkansas, and North Carolina. In case you don’t know, a primary election is where members of a political party vote for who to nominate for the final-that is the general-election. Now that we’ve got that out of the way, let’s go through all the states starting with Texas. Both major parties had hotly contested primaries. In the Democratic Primary, State Representative James Talarico defeated Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett to advance to the general in November. In the Republican Primary, none of the tree candidates, Incumbent
Senator John Cornyn, Attorney General Ken Paxton, and Congressman Wesley Hunt, could get a majority of the vote. So, they are going to have to hold a second primary, called a runoff, between the top two candidates, Cornyn and Paxton.
In Arkansas, the Incumbent Republican Senator Tom Cotton won his primary handily, as did his democratic opponent, Hallie Shoffner. Incumbent Republican Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders was unopposed in her primary. She is set to face Democratic State Senator Fredrick Love this November. Finally, in North Carolina, where one of the most closely watched Senate races is taking place. Former Republican National Convention Chair Michael Whatley defeated several opponents, winning 64% of the vote in the Republican. Former Democratic Governor Roy Cooper also his primary by a large margin. Anyway, that’s all that I have for today. See you in the next one.
